About Julia
I came to photography relatively late in life. I had been a lawyer for some 13 years. My second child who arrived when I was nearly 40, gave me an 'honourable discharge' from this interesting but demanding profession.
I live in South West London but do commissions all over the place! I completed the City and Guilds courses in photography before embarking on a Foundation degree course in Photography at Nescot (North East Surrey College of Technology) for which I achieved a Distinction grade and I was also awarded the individual prize for photographic imaging upon graduation in 2010. I am fascinated by photography's ability to capture in a fraction of a second all aspects of life and what it means to be alive.
The invisibility of being a middle aged woman can be a terrific advantage in photography in that people generally do not feel threatened or intimidated by someone who looks a little like their eccentric aunt or mother! This is particularly useful in street and documentary photography or when trying to capture the image of a child as he or she really is.
My two sons provide much practice and inspiration for my photography.
